The Old York Road Historical Society was founded in 1936 to study and preserve the history and folklore of the communities along and adjacent to Old York Road from Philadelphia to New Hope.
Over the years, the Society has continued its tradition of presenting historical lectures and publishing scholarly papers in the form of a bulletin. In addition, the Society has accumulated an impressive archive of historical materials detailing the history of the communities along the Old York Road.
The archive is open to members and the general public during normal hours or by appointment.
The Society's collections are particularly strong in covering the history of the communities in Eastern Montgomery County, and as such, the Society serves as the major historical repository for the townships of Abington, Cheltenham, Lower Moreland and Upper Moreland and the boroughs of Bryn Athyn, Hatboro, Jenkintown and Rockledge.
Interested individuals are urged to support the Society through donations of historical materials as well as through membership in the Society. Every donation and each active member furthers the goals of the Society and helps in the preservation and interpretation of the history of the Old York Road Corridor.
